A Perfect Mother's Day.

My perfect Mother's day would begin with breakfast with the family at a lovely local cafe. We would then spend the day at the beach, followed by a DVD with hubby when the kids are in bed. For a gift, some flowers and a piece of jewellery that I've got my eye on would truly make the day perfect.

But, we don't live in a perfect world. And I don't need any of those things.

There are many mothers in this world who are in desperate need of the basics necessary for survival. Not every mother can have a day "off" from her household tasks, as she still has to find water and prepare food for her family. Not every child in the world can be held by their mother. And not every mother or child has access to basic medical supplies or clothing.

This Mother's Day, I'm foregoing the flowers and other gifts to help mothers and babies in Uganda through Child's i Foundation.  Child's i Foundation is helping solve the endemic problem of poverty, disease and violence leading to child abandonment. Through the provision of family support centres, drop-in centres and family placement, Child's i Foundation is committed to helping vulnerable mothers and babies have a family and a future.

This Mother's Day (Sunday 8th May), Child's i Foundation have launched an online baby shower where people can purchase a Mother's Day gift of hope (clean water, nappies etc) instead of the usual flowers or chocolates.

This Mother's Day, why not make a difference in another mother's life, and make her day perfect.
